Day at the Bronx Zoo for Father's Day
I'm pretty sure that R has been talking about taking A to the zoo since she was in the womb so when I asked him what he wanted to do for his Father's Day weekend he was quick to say that he wanted to go to the Bronx Zoo. So last Saturday, R, A, A's Nana and Papa and I all piled into the car and spent the day at the zoo.

A fell asleep on the way there but woke up just in time to see the Peacock.

I think we'll use this picture to scare off boys someday. :)

Happy Father's Day!
They say that girls usually marry someone like their father. While I am guessing R will probably not be seen regularly on the golf course or riding a boat and I probably won't catch him listening to the Yankee games on his Ipod I do see many similarities between R and my dad and this week I was reminded of one similarity in particular. I should preface this by saying that I recently started taking cake decorating classes. Okay, so we were sitting on the couch chatting the other day and R randomly starts talking to me about a specific kind of icing and cake decorating technique that the average joe would not know about let alone know the cake decorating lingo. Puzzled I asked why he knew about that and he said that it was my new hobby and so he wants to take an interest in it and watched some Youtube videos to learn more about it. In a similar fashion when I took up softball my dad became my softball coach and when I took up lacrosse my dad went to every game he could attend (even driving from CT to MA during college). Not only are they both incredibly encouraging with their words but with their actions as well. And now that R and I have our beautiful one year old (yikes!! I still can't believe she's one) they both take an interest in whatever she is interested in...playing under the kitchen table, pointing at birds, or whatever else she enjoys at the moment. A, R and I are all extremely blessed to have AMAZING fathers. There are so many children who do not even have one male role model to look up to and I am so thankful that A has her daddy, grandpa and papa to look to for traits that she may someday find in her own husband.
Happy Father's Day! We love you!!

One Year Check-up

A had her one year wellness check up today. Our cutie continues to grow at 30 1/2 inches long she is in the 90th percentile for her age but is still a little peanut for her weight weighing in at 20lbs 2 oz she is in the 25th percentile for her age. Her head circumference is in the 75th percentile at 17 3/4 in. Her curly fro made it difficult to check her head size...they had two people take 3 tries to make sure they got it right. :)

A's First Birthday Party
On Saturday we had both sides of the family over for a barbecue to celebrate the birth of our baby girl. The weather was perfect for a day of fun!
This is the caterpillar cake I made.

Awww cousins holding hands. I think cousin T thinks A has cooties by the look on his face. :)

Hmm grass...

I think I'll try and see how it tastes.

We all gathered around the table to sing Happy Birthday to A. She was not so sure what to make of it. She just stared at all 25 of us with uncertainty.

Time to open presents.

A's First Birthday
For A's first Birthday, R took the day off. To celebrate we decided to take the train into Grand Central and wander NYC since neither A or I have ever been in Grand Central and R travels through there 5 days a week we thought it would be a fun little outing.
A waiting excitedly in her stroller as the train pulled up.

A being her usual social butterfly self playing with the train passengers.

We strolled through the city and ended up finding Bryant park.

We found a carousel in the park. A was less than thrilled with the ride and ended up clinging to me for most of it.

Here we are in Grand Central (red stroller). R was up above us taking this picture using his ultra cool photography skills to blur the people around us. :)

And no birthday can be complete without a nice bite of some yummy birthday cake!
