Over the past few weeks our adoption journey has made some great headway. U had many appointments that overall went well. He has one more important one coming up that we are super excited about and are very thankful was rescheduled without much delay at all. If the adoption band was lifted we would literally be in Congo at this very moment with U waiting for this one last appointment before he would come to the U.S. with us.
For an almost 20 month old U has had one busy week with some firsts. He took his first plane ride. He had his first medical exam. He met his new foster family for the first time. This will be the place he will call home until we come for him.
U left the orphanage that he has called home for the majority of his life and set off to a seemingly foreign world. New tribe, new language, new scenery, new food, new people, new everything. While this is a wonderful thing to know that we will now get more than one update every six months and that he will have more individualized attention, as a mom my heart is extremely heavy knowing that he was taken from what he would consider his family and home to a strange land that is all so new. A process to be repeated when he comes here.
We received our first of hopefully many emails yesterday from his foster mom. While we are still waiting for clarity with part of the email (we have to translate from French to English) we do know that he is eating a lot and adjusting well to his new home. He plays with the toys around the house. She also said he is very healthy. What sheer joy and relief an email like that brings to this mom!

Annual Florida Trip/Anniversary Getaway
Here are some pictures from our trip to visit my parents in Florida. I plan to add more pics once I get some off of R's camera.
Getting ready for the plane ride. |
Enjoying the beautiful rainbow in the sky. |
Grandpa flying a kite while the girls work on the sand castle. The girls seemed not to notice that it was pouring rain. :) |
"Surfing" |
The girls stayed with my parents at their condo while R and I set off for Key West for 3 days to celebrate our 9 year anniversary. We had a blast taking long walks and riding bikes around the island! The hotel even gave us an ocean view suite when they heard it was our anniversary. When we returned M was quick to snuggle with her daddy.
Miss. Creative took Grandma's toilet paper rolls and transformed them into reindeer antlers. |
We love coming to stay with my parents each winter and are already looking forward to next year...especially with the 2 degree weather that greeted us this morning!
10 Months
When I was pregnant with A, R and I went to the toy store to make our baby registry. While we were there R spotted a little teddy bear and decided it was the perfect first gift from us to give our first little baby. When M was born R and I picked out a little purple hippo blankie to be her first gift from us.
Exactly ten months ago today R and I laid eyes on the sweetest and cutest little boy we had ever seen. We had already loved him but now we had the face, name, age and gender of the child that was apart of our family (at least in our hearts). And at this 10 month mark he is finally able to receive our first gifts from us. A few weeks ago we found out that we would be able to send him a small package for what will most likely be the one and only package he will get from us until we see him in person. The four of us went to the store and picked out a little truck and plane along with a little photo album with pictures filled with the four of us.
Tunakupenda = We love you |
It looks to be a long road ahead but we pray that it won't be too long until we are able to play with him in person.
